Greetings to all who come to my site!
My name is Georgina A. Fuentes and this website is a collection of a variety of technology resources that can be utilized to help students learn English as a Second Language (ESOL). This is the Technology Plan website for my TEFL 0530 class at Nova Southeastern University.
English Language Learners (ELLs) or ESOL students have needs related to a language barrier that cannot always be met with regular instruction. Three basic stages of language learning are: learning sounds (the ability to recognize phonemes, also called phonemic awareness), learning new words and vocabulary (understanding how the sounds go together to create meaning), and making sentences with the new words (application and context).

Young learners are not fully prepared to learn a new language. Educators would first need to identify the crucial requisites and recognize the different skillsets of individual students in order to boost children’s attitudes toward the new language. For example, a classroom may have a student may want to use a tablet to learn, a self-confident student is able to learn on their own, and a student who wants to collaborate with peers and easily accepts all teaching approaches. Since learners are diverse, providing them with extra interactive and visual resources along with using a variety of teaching strategies (such as technology, realia, total physical response, and modeling) is essential towards building each lesson towards the success of all students. It is important to introduce technology and its application for learning when they're beginning so they can improve their tech-literacy and open their minds to learning opportunities in their daily lives. Making accommodations for ELLs should be taken into account when planning and it is important to consider their level of language proficiency when making language objectives. These accommodations and language objectives help ensure that the ELLs needs are met without modifying the purpose of the lesson.
